And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. -Anais Nin
My practice specializes in working with issues of grief and loss, anxiety & depression, as well as trauma. Much of my work is informed through a careful assessment of a client’s needs and then developing a plan that will help meet those needs within the framework of the therapy relationship. If you have been to therapy before , then therapy with me may feel very different. There will be much more interaction and involvement in our work together. Experiential exercises where feelings can be explored and “felt” not just reported on in session will occur through a variety of interventions aimed at helping you reduce the frequency and intensity of triggers that seem impossible to shake. Perhaps in previous therapy you would feel better for a while, but later recognized a pattern of various triggers and reactions (schemas and modes ) that would get activated at various points of your life and therefore never really healed . In our work together we will do deep work…with lasting effects for change and healing.
With young children I will often use play therapy interventions to assist children in identifying thoughts and feelings that they may be struggling with. Play is often referred to as the “language of children” and through the use of the metaphors presented in a child’s play and my training as a Play Therapist I can access a child’s deepest worries and concerns and begin to help them with expressing these feelings , learning safe and appropriate coping skills, and give them tools they can incorporate into any situation in life and setting up for being better able to adjust and cope in adolescence and adulthood.
As I tell my clients , they will learn skills and eventually be able to take their “show on the road”
